What is hypnosis?
|
A |
The American Psychological Association defines hypnosis as “a procedure during which a health professional or researcher suggests that a client ...experience changes in sensations, perceptions, thoughts or behaviors.” (1993) For me, as a clinician, hypnosis is a focused and absorbed state of being. It is one of the tools I use with clients and teach to clients, and it allows people to discover and utilize powerful, internal resources. It is a wonderfully effective way to regain or create control, and allows people to manage fear, anxiety, medical procedures, childbirth, and everyday stress without side effects. All hypnosis sessions are created for each individual client, and are recorded on CD's for the client's use. |

Does insurance cover any of your services? |
A |
It may, but it depends on your insurance and the specific service provided. I am a licensed therapist (LICSW), so I have the credentials needed. I am not, by choice, “in-network” with any insurance plans, but some insurance plans allow you to see a clinician who is "out-of-network." Before calling to schedule an appointment, please check with your insurance company and find out the available benefits for out of network behavioral health services.
Payment in full is required at the time of service.
I do not submit claims to insurance companies, but will provide the necessary forms to you, so that you may seek reimbursement. In order to be reimbursed by your insurance company, you must:
- have out-of-network mental or behavioral health benefits
- meet the criteria for a mental health diagnosis, as I must provide them with a diagnosis
- provide me with the necessary paperwork, which I will complete for you
- submit the forms to your insurance company and have them reimburse you directly

What happens in a typical session? |
A |
A first session lasts about 1.5 hours, subsequent meetings about an hour. I ask questions, looking for the patterns that need interrupting and the resources that need bolstering. After the questioning, we create a plan together. I might do a hypnosis session, which is recorded on my computer, and burned onto a CD for you to listen to. I will also give homework assignments to be done between sessions, and we'll set concrete goals. All aspects of the process, including the hypnosis, are interactive. Work begins in the first session.
When I work with children, a parent is required to be present for the sessions. Because I teach skills to the child and the parents, and give homework assignments, I need the full participation of parents to support what we're doing in the sessions. |
